WAVE’S IMPRINT: An International Cinematic Experiment

The VAR Cultural Association are excited to announce the premiere of Wave’s Imprint, an international production coordinated by VAR Cultural Association – Romania, created between July and October 2024. The film brings together 17 young cochlear implant users from Belgium, England, Turkey, Iran, Moldovia, Croatia, the Philippines, and Romania, each offering a unique perspective on daily life. They explored familiar paths, reinterpreting everyday details in an artistic and deeply personal way.

The project has its roots in two successful initiatives launched by the VAR Cultural Association in Romania: Sound Imprint and Waveforme. Launched in 2021, these projects have been awarded for their contribution to social awareness and support for young people with hearing impairments, both nationally (the MOL Award for Children’s Health for Sound Imprint I – 2021, First Prize at the Civil Society Gala in the Art and Culture category in 2023), and internationally (Best Educational Film Honorable Mention 2022 at the Best International Film Festival for Sound Imprint II, Best Social Awareness Short Film 2022 at the Subathra International Film Festival for Sound Imprint II, Best Social Awareness Short Film 2022 at the Sittannavasal International Film Festival for Sound Imprint II).

The film premiere will take place in Bucharest on November 2nd, during a public event, and starting on November 3rd, the film will be available online on the platform Homepage EN – WaveforMe. Also, as part of the event on November 2nd, there will be a collective exhibition showcasing a selection of works from the virtual gallery, which was presented in August and can still be visited by accessing the same platform. The project is funded by the Ministry of Culture.

The evolution of the project can be followed on social media – Facebook: WaveforMe / Instagram: waveforme.var.

In addition to the film, the Waveforme platform also includes a virtual art gallery hosting works from over 30 young artists from 20 countries, including Spain, Estonia, Croatia, Belgium, England, Turkey, Iran, the Philippines, Poland, Greece, Japan, Italy, Hungary, the Netherlands, China, Serbia, Mexico, the United States, and Moldova.

Furthermore, the platform offers 10 podcasts featuring young adults with cochlear implants from five countries, designed to inspire and encourage teenagers to pursue their passions.

The virtual art gallery and podcasts are available on https://waveforme.org/en/, where the film will also be available starting November 3rd.
