CIICA – CELEBRATING FIVE YEARS!
We are delighted to share that an article celebrating five years of CIICA has been published in the June 2026 edition of BATOD Magazine. Written by Sue Archbold and Qais Khan, the article reflects on CIICA’s growth since its launch in 2021 and its impact in strengthening the voices of cochlear implant users and families worldwide.
Since its founding, CIICA has grown into a global network of more than 120 organisations and over 700 individuals across 76 countries, bringing together cochlear implant users, families, professionals, researchers, industry representatives and policymakers to advocate for improved access to cochlear implantation and lifelong support services.
The article also highlights the increasing leadership of young adults within CIICA. Through dedicated conversations and the development of their Agenda for Change, young advocates are influencing discussions about education, accessibility, employment and lifelong support. Their recent work on improving accessibility in education emphasises that while technology is important, awareness, training and inclusive practices are equally essential for success.
The feature showcases CIICA’s commitment to global collaboration, advocacy and lived-experience leadership, while recognising the contribution of the wider CI community in driving positive change. It also celebrates the longstanding connection between CIICA and BATOD through the involvement of former BATOD President Sue Archbold, who now coordinates CIICA.
