News from The Global Foundation for Children Hearing Loss

Celebrations on International Cochlear Implant Day in Kenya feature in the national news! (February 25th, 2026)

The Global Foundation For Children with Hearing Loss (GFCHL) and Kenyatta National Hospital hosted a Cochlear Implant Family Day yesterday for beneficiaries of the Voice of Children Foundation (Office of the First Lady of Kenya) cochlear implant donation program in honor of International Cochlear Implant Day. It was such a wonderful event filled with tremendous good will!

The event was designed to lend support and guidance to families of newly implanted children through the First Lady’s program as they begin their habilitation journey. They came together today to learn from each other, medical professionals, and habilitation specialists who graduated from the GFCHL’s 2-year Auditory-Verbal Therapy training program. Guest speakers shared personal experiences with pediatric hearing loss and cochlear implants. There was music, creativity, dancing, food, and a whole lot of fun!

A national publication featured this event and encapsulated why we all do what we do:

Kenyan Students Graduate in AV Therapy (December 5th, 2025)

GFCHL (Global Foundation for Children with Hearing Loss) are pleased to share some exciting news that is a direct reflection of your benevolence and engagement with our organization. Last week, we celebrated the graduation of our first cohort in Kenya to complete the GFCHL’s two-year, intensive professional development program in Auditory-Verbal Therapy!

This is a significant milestone in a country that has very limited habilitation resources critical for young children with hearing aids and cochlear implants. Many regions have no such support at all, necessitating long, costly, and unsustainable trips to Nairobi.

Our 19 graduates come from five counties (states) throughout Kenya. They return to their communities empowered with expertise and skills to guide local families in helping their babies and young children with hearing technology develop listening and spoken language. They are leaders who will be involved in sharing their new knowledge with others to make the benefits exponential and sustainable.
