YOUNG PEOPLE’S CONVERSATION: IMPROVING ACCESSIBILITY IN EDUCATION

TUESDAY 3RD MARCH 2026

To mark World Hearing Day, this CIICA Conversation was designed primarily for young adults with cochlear implants to share their lived experiences of accessibility in school and higher education.

The conversation was led by Ava Bulls, a deafblind advocate from the USA. We had 27 participants from 12 countries joined the discussion, including USA, Turkey, UK, Latvia, Libya, Vietnam, the Netherlands, Denmark, Canada, Sri Lanka, Portugal, and Finland.

It will launch with inspiring video contributions from young adults around the world.

A teacher of the deaf , Julie Dellafiori, who is also an implant user, wrote this poem for us to think about life in the classroom for CI users. You can download it here.
