YOUNG ADULTS WITH CI: NAVIGATING POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION
TUESDAY 10 DECEMBER 2024;
Raquel Tiana LeBlanc and Manuela Malheiros led this conversation for CI users transitioning to or currently in higher education to come together and share their experiences, challenges, and strategies for success in academic settings.
Ten CI young adult users, an audiologist, a teacher of the deaf and a psychologist joined the meeting from Canada, Belgium, UK and Australia to discuss their challenges and how they can be overcome. There were plenty of tips for how to advocate for oneself and suggestions for help at University. They all advised planning early to get everything needed in place, and documented and all agreed…..
Suddenly in post-secondary education you are not in that safe environment anymore, … you need to advocate for yourself. It can be very difficult.
it’s never easy when it comes to accommodations, I think everyone can agree with me, that it’s such it can be a challenging thing. But you need to advocate for yourself. That’s the number one thing.
Summary available here for you to share the lively discussion:
