NOTHING ABOUT US WITHOUT US BECAME A REALITY AT THIS CONFERENCE!
CIICA’s goal is to increase access to CI for and lifelong services globally.
How do we advocate for this?
What does successful advocacy look like?
How do we overcome our challenges?
Successful Advocacy is key to expanding access to Cochlear Implants and lifelong services.
At our inspiring global conference we heard about how groups of parents, young people and advocates have achieved success and learned from professional advocates what works, shared our challenges and developed new ideas by networking with global partners. 100 delegates from 29 countries learnt about the evidence obtained in our global survey CI SERVICES MATTER, from Prof Connie Mayer, York University, Toronto and how the report and briefing can be used in your advocacy work.
This first-ever global advocacy conference on Cochlear Implants provided crucial learning opportunities and a chance to be part of a global movement for change.
Pioneer Graeme Clark sent us his good wishes for the conference by video from Melbourne, telling us that our advocacy goals are inspiring. Please take a look of his inspiring message for CIICA Conference in Brussels!
and another Pioneer, Blake Wilson, Chair of the Lancet Commission on Hearing Loss, sent us his message too….
The effort by the CIICA to narrow this wide gap is most laudable indeed and is needed to bring the gift of highly useful hearing to millions beyond the first million. Keep going! With my best wishes for a splendid conference and brilliant future, Blake Wilson
We are also delighted that Dr Shelly Chadha, Technical lead, Ear and Hearing Care at the World Health Organization welcomed you to our conference with Dr Carolina Der who challenged us with:
How can we provide access to cochlear implants in LMICs? A discussion from a public health point of view.
Launching new resources: We launched two new resources for advocacy work:
- Literacy outcomes in children with CI
- Advocacy Guidelines
- and our Young Adults with CI group introduced themselves as a new Stakeholder Group.
With many thanks to all our supporters including:
The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
