Advocacy needs planning, evidence and passion – and there were all three in this meeting!

Following the very successful CIICA Advocacy Conference, we continued to develop our focus on how to implement successful Advocacy Campaigns, building on the input from CIICA members and experts. This online event examined the principles of successful advocacy and how these could be applied to campaigning for better access and provision of services for implant users. There was also the opportunity to hear about CIICA’s recently launched advocacy guide and understand how it could be used to the best effect. This was an exciting opportunity to learn more about CI advocacy and develop expertise and effectiveness.

The event was chaired by Professor Holly Teagle, who was key to the development of the Living Guidelines, and Professor Sara Robinelli joined us from Lausanne, where she is Professor of Health Communication, to inspire us once more with The Transformative Power of Advocacy Changing our World.

Dr. Carolina Der, of the World Hearing Forum, WHO, shared her inspiration on CI services in the context of global Ear and Hearing Care across the lifespan.

The programme included Jehan Daboo, a young CI adult from India; Ann Charlotte Gyllenram, a parent from Sweden and Founder of Barnplantorna; Eddie Mukaaya, a parent from Uganda and founder of the family group Hear His Voice; Paul Sommer, a bilateral CI user from the USA and expert in patient engagement, inspiring us to further advocacy activities.

Brian Lamb, UK, Policy Advisor of CIICA, shared the latest CIICA Resource – a Practical Guide to CI Advocacy, which is now downloadable on our website.
