Going for assessment for CI can be bewildering, faced with a wide range of information to absorb and often you think of the questions you wish you had asked on the way home! This Question Prompt List (QPL) is based on recommendations by members of the Cochlear Implant International Community of Action (CIICA). Following a series of Conversations, CI and HA users and clinicians were asked to participate in a consensus process, by first reviewing and then prioritizing the most frequently mentioned “questions I wished I had asked” prior to implantation.
We hope they are a useful prompt for those thinking about assessment for CI and help to ensure clinics can provide relevant information in a timely fashion, and help candidates ask the questions they really need to know.
We are also delighted that the resource was featured in The Hearing Journal
in August 2026.
Prof Teddy McCracken, CI surgeon at Medical University of S Carolina:
Saw your article! So wonderful to see this work come to fruition. Congrats. It is a wonderful contribution.
Dr. Carmen Barreira-Nielsen, Professor and Researcher at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), Brazil comments: “In my clinical experience, many families and adults feel overwhelmed when considering cochlear implantation. The CIICA Question Prompt List gives them confidence, helping them ask the right questions and become active partners in their own care.”
